Here is the structure with the slide placed on, not fully installed. You can also see Alton's sandbox peeking out below!
Alton shows you the placement of the sandbox. Andy is putting two corner seats on the sides closest to the slide, and on the rear section there will be a board bench running the width of the structure for playmates or parents to sit on. With his windbreaker, khakis and beach ball, we thought Alton looked very "Cape Cod" in this picture!
Now it's time to test out this floor. Andy hoists Alton up for a look-see...
then joins him on the fort for support.
Minerva looks up longingly; she wants to be on the fort, too.

Even Mommy gets to join Alton on it for a photo op. In a few more days, there will be a slide right in front of where we're sitting!
And speaking of rolling right along, today Alton went roller skating! A local skate rink does a "Tiny Tot" skate session on Wednesday mornings for children age 7 and under, and I was eager to try out this activity before the elementary schools let out this week. We met up with another mom from our playgroup and her daughter, who is just 2 weeks older than Alton. We strapped on his skates (I remained in my sneakers) and snapped a few pictures before trying to become upright.
He was so cute! He was not able to stand and balance on his own on the skates--his feet would just shoot out from under him if I wasn't supporting his body and keeping him level--but he let me hold him and roll him in front of me on the rink, straddled my knee as I crouched down and rolled his skates back and forth, and had some fun rolling plastic balls around the floor, too. I considered it a triumph that he kept the skates on for an hour and when we were ready to pack it in, he and his little friend enjoyed some climbing time on the coin rides near the snack bar. Too much fun! Minerva is positively dizzy with excitement.

Andy is doing a fabulous job. Can't wait to see it in a few days.
Seriously...Andy, impressed seems like such a weak word to use. That playset looks large and in charge! As for the skates...KT, you're going to have to strap those bad boys on eventually so that when you host your skate party you can be out there helping all those kids that can't skate. And yes, it will kill your back and may even sprain your ankle. Were they playing all the top 20 hits at the rink? I felt like I got a lesson in "songs that those young folks are listening to these days". Nice job keeping those on him for an hour.
Congratulations on the work so far on the fort. It looks fabulous!Roller skating is a lost adventure. So glad you still found a place that has it.
